Cats on farms are work animals. They keep the rodent population in check. I heard of one person in NY had need of a couple more cats on his farm so he went to the local animal shelter.

The nice folks there asked him where he lived and how the cats would be cared for. They were aghast that he would leave them to fend for themselves in a barnyard! They could be killed!

Yes, but they could also live and have a much better life, he told them. They didn't let him have the cats.

Yay! Will is a cat person. Evidence: when he sees a dog he calls it a dog, when he hears about a cat he calls it a kitteh. Score one for the cat team.

I am looking forward to your take on animal ownership. I have known a number of country and city folk who don't see cats in the same way. The country folk that I knew tended to view cats as rather disposable. If they did see it as ownership, the cats weren't valued high enough to protect, mark, fix or go out of their way to maintain. The city folk tended to go overboard in the other direction, granting the cats almost human like value and attention.

I wonder how the cats feel.

My C2K kitty would make a wonderful WFL mascot. Also, outdoor cats need a collar with a quick release, so that if they get tangled up in something, they can get out of the collar.
